That will be another bit of sad news for Jimmy Webb. As we know he wrote P F Sloan about him and it was a recent hit for Rumer in the UK

That is sad news Dee,
I always remember the story: When Southern Nights hit the top spot, Glen called Allen and asked him if he liked what he had done with the song and Allen said "Bless you Glen".
You may recalled that Glen was played Southern Nights by Allen while he was visiting Jimmy Webb. He loved the lyrics so much he recorded the song and the rest is history. As I also recall this caught Capitol by surprise and Glen was rushed into the studio to record an album to release on the strength of the single.

Deeply sorry to post the passing of Allen Toussaint:

Influential songwriter, producer Allen Toussaint has died
Allen Toussaint, the legendary songwriter, producer, arranger and performer hailed by the Grammys, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and musicians and fans worldwide as one of the most influential figures in New Orleans music, died Monday while on tour in Europe, his family confirmed. He was 77.
Though always soft-spoken, humble and most often preferring to stay behind the scenes, the list of those who benefited from Toussaint's touch as a producer and arranger is staggering. It ranges from the 1950s to the present day: from Irma Thomas, Aaron Neville, Art Neville, Dr. John, the Meters, Paul McCartney, Joe Cocker and Glen Campbell to the late Ernie K-Doe, Chris Kenner, Lee Dorsey, Jessie Hill, Benny Spellman and Al Hirt, to name but a few.
(One of the songs) Toussaint wrote that became familiar to audiences nationwide was "Southern Nights," recorded by Glenn Campbell in 1977 and recognized by BMI as the "most performed song of the year." It was nominated for song of the year by the Grammy Awards and the Country Music Association.

Legendary record producer Billy Sherrill dies - August 4, 2015

Mr. Sherrill was also a songwriter and arranger.
In the sixties and seventies, he was known for being a key contributor to the development of the "countrypolitan" sound.

Songs written or co-written by Mr. Sherrill can be found at: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category: ... y_Sherrill" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
You'll notice songs on this list performed by Glen Campbell such as the wonderful My Elusive Dreams and Living In A House Full Of Love.

arlw,
I was shocked to hear this news. I hadn't heard she was even ill. She was the mainstay of Saturday TV for years.
Another great artist taken too soon.

British singer and TV host Cilla Black dies at 72----really great singer-I remember her from the 60's!

Former Beatle Paul McCartney said news of Black's death came as a shock. "She had a fine distinctive voice and was always a bit of a laugh. It was a privilege to know and love her," McCartney said in a statement.
Ringo Starr tweeted: "She was a good friend we will all miss her."

Black was born Priscilla White in Liverpool, northwest England, in 1943. As a teenager she sang part-time and worked in the cloakroom of the Cavern Club, where her musical talent was spotted by rising local stars The Beatles.
Signed by the Fab Four's manager, Brian Epstein, she had a string of hits starting in 1964 with "Anyone Who Had a Heart," written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David, and "You're My World." Both went to No. 1 in Britain, and the latter also charted in the U.S.
She also had success with the Bacharach-David theme tune for the 1966 film "Alfie," and recorded several Beatles songs, including "The Long and Winding Road."

By the late '60s she was famous enough to be known by her first name alone, and hosted a BBC variety show, "Cilla."

Way too young!
