Musicians and others share their thoughts on the loss of Glen Campbell
Goldmine, The Music Collector's Magazine
August 8, 2017

How did we miss this powerhouse of tributes to the Great Glen Campbell on Goldmine?
Check out two of Goldmine's tribute posts below as well as many others on the Goldmine site. Don't miss the tremendous full-size black and white photo of guitar masters Glen Campbell, Chet Atkins and Steve Wariner.
I was 5 years old when I learned all the words to ‘By the Time I Get to Pheonix.’ Now I am 55 and get senior discounts on coffee. Glen’s voice cuts through the years to the very day I learned it! I learned his every inflection. Who had more pure talent than Glen Campbell? Nobody.” – Max T. Barnes, award-winning songwriter
Sorry to hear about my good friend Glen. The loss is too big to put into words. He was an incredible voice, incredible musician, incredible friend, movie star and recording artist. We had so much fun together, and sort of grew up together in our music and our careers. There were so many memories that only he and I shared. Glen and I were brothers in every sense of the word. When I hear or see his name, I see the Glen I’ve always known. There will never, ever be another Glen Campbell. – Roy Clark

Jimmy Webb remembers and honors Glen Campbell in this Syracuse.com interview with Warren Linhart, aptly describing the impact Glen had on American popular music.

The interview took place prior to Jimmy's show last night at The Palace Theatre in Syracuse: "Jimmy Webb: The Glen Campbell Years - a multi-media tribute to Glen Campbell".

Great interview!

Don't recall seeing this one so forgive me if it's been up before, but a nice reflection from a member of the S.D. symphony orchestra.

Thanks, Cowpoke. I also am not familiar with the music of Jake Owens and respect his awareness of his heritage: "....current acts like me have an obligation to pay respect to the people who came before us."
Good question about how he would rate his own music in comparison to Glen's.

Some fans describe Glen Campbell's "Live in Concert" with the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra (2001) as one of his best live concert performances.
In this news report, Chris Hill, a member of the SD orchestra, briefly shares what it was like to work with Glen Campbell.
(Sorry if this interview was already posted.)

Was this tribute by Jake Owen already posted?

And here's a recent interview, full of praise for Glen.
Not long after Glen Campbell passed away on Aug. 8, Owen posted a video of himself performing one of Campbell’s biggest hits, “Wichita Lineman,” on social media. “We lost one of the greatest voices, guitar players and entertainers that our world has ever seen,” Owen wrote in a post accompanying the video. “It seems this year has been filled with these moments where we’ve lost people that have enriched our lives with their pure talent. This is a huge loss for country music.”

“I was sitting in the front lounge area on my bus when I learned that he passed away,” said Owen. “I just grabbed my guitar and started to sing one of his songs.

“I have major respect for country music as a whole. Don’t get me wrong, I love being a part of the scene that is happening now, but current acts like me have an obligation to pay respect to the people who came before us,” he said. “I loved Glen Campbell — his voice, his music, his melodies and his guitar playing were some of the best this world has ever seen.”

PS: to be honest I had never heard of Jake Owen before. He has had a couple of number 1 hits on the country charts. His own biggest hit probably was "Barefoot Blue Jean Night" from 2011, a (i'm sorry to say) terribly superficial song devoid of any musical and lyrical depth. How would he rate his own music against that of Glen's?
