Jay, it doesn't sound like dad is on that recording. He first came to the Foggys after Jody left. I had been exposed to a lot of great guitars including Lester's D-28, Mother Mabel's Gibson, Earl's D-18 and a Gibson Earl had as well but didn't own one of my own until I moved to Knoxville in 1967. It was a good but inexpensive Kay. I played it for a year or so and dad bought the Vega from Earl (Earl had two and his brother Horace had the other, I don't know where it is now) in 1969 and gave it to me. In the summer of 1969 I had a chance to meet Glen and played his 12-string Ovation and that is when I first fell for the Ovations. I will post a story about meeting Glen soon. I look forward to hearing more from you on this board as time goes by.

Nash...you have some killer guitars. You come from royalty. Funny you should mention F&S...the Fretboard Journal posted this video today. Was your dad on this recording? How does that Martin play out? I would like to hear why you embraced Ovations in their infancy. You obviously were brought up in a house that played very nice traditional guitars.

I have an Ovation Classical circa 1972, a Vega flattop circa 1961 that was previously owned by Earl Scruggs and a Martin D-28 circa 1966. The Martin belonged to my father who played bass for Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs for about 20 years and was given to him by Mike Longworth. I once owned an Ovation Balladeer circa 1969 but foolishly sold it to a cousin with the understanding that if he ever sold it I had right of first refusal but it was stolen in the late 1970s. I wish I had never sold that Balladeer and have never been tempted to sell any of my guitars since.
