Thank you Dee, I am glad you enjoyed it. I was trying to get in touch with my artistic side as I have drifted away slightly from those things which I found very enjoyable to achieve last year. Nice to revisit the place again.

Love it, Mike! Well done!
I REALLY appreciate how you were inspired to create your own work of art based on your admiration for artists (surely Vermeer was one?) from Delft, Holland.
For as long as I can, I will try to "leave my memories here with you."
I guess it remains to be seen for most of us if we chose the right path.
Thanks so much for sharing with us.
(I hope this song never plays from a bag of cheesy Doritos. It deserves MUCH better than a bag of junk food. Perhaps from a pint of Guinness? :) )
Cheers!
Dee

Mike, you wrote: "...the guy who had asked me to write it said I had written it almost as if I had some personal experience of the event."
I got goosebumps when I read this, Mike.
Perhaps getting your song so right can be attributed to 'artistic channeling'? If so, you have a special gift.

Go for "Wichita Lineman"! I can hear you singin' in the wire.

Thanks guys I appreciate the feedback. It was the first time I was asked to write a song about a particular subject, so it was a challenge to see if I could do that from scratch. Not knowing the particulars of the story I had to read up on it and made lots of notes and then incorporated them into the verses. It was very satisfying to have people come up to me afterwards who said they found it very moving and the guy who had asked me to write it said I had written it almost as if I had some personal experience of the event. I felt like Jimmy being asked to write a follow up song after Phoenix for Glen about something geographical and coming up with Wichita Lineman. I will try and do some more Glen covers soon. Dare I have a go at Wichita Lineman.

You are turning into a real folk singer/songwriter Mike. A wonderful tribute in remembrance of all those young men who died there.

Beautifully done, Mike.
Your new Ovation Celebrity sounds awesome. I feel you are comfortable with it already.
You are learning to play piano quickly!
I had never heard of the Gallipoli landings and about all the deaths. Thank you for sharing this history and for sharing your memorial to all those men who died 100 years ago.

Hi Guys, I posted a new song on Youtube the other day. I was asked to write something to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Gallipoli landings by a guy who hear my other song about a soldier. I sang the song at the latter part of 2015 at the clubs and it seemed to go down well. I have now managed to put some time aside and record it properly so here is the finished result.
BTW I used my new Ovation Celebrity guitar on this track for those who wanted to hear how it sounds. I am really pleased with it.

Hi guys,
I have had a bit more spare time recently so I decided to get back to recording some of my own songs. I wrote this back in September 2014 so it is already an oldie. I hope you enjoy.

Hi Cowpoke,
Thanks for the feedback. I am glad you liked it. I played it first at the folk club and knew it was going down well when I heard members of the audience start to sing along, even though it was the first time they had heard it. A number of people thought it was a wonderful idea for a Christmas gift and they could also relate well with the song as many had similar back grounds in relation to their own parents. When I played it to my parents I actually gave them a DVD version which I used on the Youtube upload. The pictures are all from the area where they were born and the picture of the cottage with a damaged roof is in fact where she lived as a child. When they started to watch it, my Dad recalled riding his bike on the road shown in the video and my Mom became very tearful, even before the first verse was over. I think they were very pleased to say the least.
I think I was inspired by Carl Jackson when he did the live version of his song "Letter to home". I have always loved that song.
Regarding what I used to record on, its a BOSS BR600 multi track recorder. I have gained a lot of experience in mixing the sound of the various channels and I think that has improved the overall results and sound quality. I now feel I would like to redo some of the earlier tracks but perhaps that can wait for another time.
It was nice to have my daughter at home over Christmas who is an experienced piano/keyboard player. I showed her what I wanted and she produced the goods. It was nice playing the part of Brian Wilson for a time. LOL
I have another song I have already done which my other daughter said she would mix for me but she has been busy so I am not sure when she will get it back to me. It should be an interesting result as she is going to add extra instruments to it. Probably not the 80 strong orchestra, but at least it's a start.
Dee, Sorry I posted the video in the wrong place and thanks for resetting it up in this thread. Much appreciated.
Mike
