I look forward to it Glenn,
It's great that someone like yourself is keeping Glen's music alive by performing it live. Turn around look at me is a hard song to do vocally I would think, but I am sure it goes down well. It is fantastic to play as a group as well as I think that really gives the music a lift as well as the performers. When I sing Try a little kindness, I get a guy who plays bass to play along. I just love it, as it feels more relaxed with someone else sharing the spotlight.
I wish you and your band well Glenn, and please let us hear some of those performances on Youtube etc.
Your UK fan,
Mike

I am looking forward to doing "Galveston" when my band performs at the Veterans Administration hospital later this summer. It's a big event, with vets from all the recent conflicts in attendance. I know that "Galveston" has special meaning for the Vietnam Vets.

I've been getting a great reaction to "Turn Around Look At Me" as well. It's a great tune to sing, but not many folks associate it with Glen. The 1968 version by the Vogues was the bigger hit. I think it was covered by similar vocal groups, like the Lettermen.

Maybe me, my guitar and my cowboy shirts will make it to Birmingham (UK for the moment) soon. I'll make sure to look you up, Mike. In the meantime, keep on pickin' and grinnin'

Glenn

Wonderful job Glenn, I agree with your point about how much people still love Glen's music. I play at a few clubs here in Birmingham UK and last month I played Galveston. Later in the evening a guy came up to me and said " I was going to sing Galveston tonight but you beat me to it". Someone else sang Gentle on my mind a while later and another singer loves to do Highway man. When I sang "Today is mine" the other week, a lot of people came up to me and said how they loved the song and it's positive message. Good songs never fade.

Thanks for the positive feedback. Of course it's "line-mun!"

The reaction to the video from our band's mailing list and Facebook friends has also been very gratifying. I never guessed that so many people shared my affection for GC and his music. I wanted to do right by Glen with this tribute and it appears that I made some good choices.

A few more bookings in senior centers have come through. I think we have a venue for the Alzheimer's benefit, so that seems to be moving forward. I will alert everyone when the details are firmed up, but the show will take place somewhere in Nassau County (Long Island) NY.

Yes, very nice job. Did you make that backing track all by yourself Glenn? It's so close to the original. I love the outro you did. Great job and you picked some terrific clips. Thanks for sharing it here.

Beautiful tribute and beautifully done! Loved that you included Carol Kaye's session description . That quote about the "hair standing up on her arms" and "oooooh , this is deep",,,, I just love that. Also noticed that you paid attention to the way Glen says "Linemun" rather than Lineman" and you also sang it softly with heart. All my thumbs up Sir!!!!

I got around to posting a video excerpt of the show on YouTube, showing the multimedia content and the onscreen lyrics.

Enjoy!

Well done, Glenn and Suzanne! You certainly had an outstanding response from your audience to the debut of your new tribute show to Glen Campbell! Congratulations! I am excited for both of you as well as for all of the people you touched today with Glen's hit songs and life stories, your own talents, and your well thought-out video presentations.

What a great idea to open with "Hi, I'm Glen Campbell!" and to end with Ashley and Glen walking off stage. Also, your idea to make your program a multi-media one is tremendous. By creating a show using multiple senses, you made it more accessible for the audience-at-large.

Isn't it interesting that both "Phoenix" and "Southern Nights" were especially big hits -- two very different songs, yet both songs really engaged your listeners.

We hope you hear positive news very soon from Long Island Alzheimer's Association about a future event with this organization. In any case, today's show will surely remain "gentle" on many people's minds from the joy you provided, and it may very well have given some attendees a changed perspective about Alzheimer's disease. Effecting this kind of change is exactly what Glen had hoped for by first sharing his diagnosis almost five years ago with the public and then touring, doing the documentary, and more.

Thank you so much for sharing the details of this morning's event with Glen Campbell Forums, Glenn! We are really honored to be part of your journey of hope and are already looking forward to your updates. Let us know if we can be of any help to you.

All the best to you and Suzanne,

Dee

Glad we got the issue of N's straightened out. You wouldn't believe how many times I've had to correct myself.

So we did the show for the first time this morning in Commack, NY at Gurwin Jewish Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. About 125 people, 1/2 residents 1/2 people in their Adult Day Care Program. Suzanne and I had rehearsed the material to death, but it was still a little nerve-wracking to do the show top to bottom for actual people.

Well, they truly loved the show and were engaged and singing throughout. I wasn't sure how the more obscure songs would go over, but they seemed to like everything. "Turn Around, Look At Me" is a great song to sing, and most people don't associate it with Glen. The big hits got a big rise out of the audience, especially "Phoenix" and "Southern Nights."

I had 3 - 4 good sources of biographical footage from YouTube. I didn't want a "Voice Of God" narrator, so I pieced together stories told by Glen, his family and professional associates. Somebody put together a montage of "Hi I'm Glen Campbell" clips which was a fun way to open the show. I used a clip of Kim talking about the Alzheimer's diagnosis and how much love and support Glen got during his farewell tour. I found a decent clip of GC doing "Rhinestone Cowboy" at the Hollywood Bowl, which I used for the closing. I end with GC being escorted offstage by his daughter---very touching.

I got back in touch with our contact at the Long Island Alzheimer's Association. We're hoping that they will do some kind of event with us soon.

We're doing the GC material for a noontime concert in White Plains, NY on July 21. Info: fcroughan@whiteplainsny.gov

Then in September we're doing it at the Friedberg JCC in Oceanside, NY and then at the Atria West 86th Street in Manhattan.

We'll be spreading the word, so I will keep the forum posted about new bookings. We'd be willing to take the show out-of-toiwn (perhaps). :)
