Dee, it just goes to show how much Glen's image was a powerful selling tool. The original album cover with Glen looks so good and yet you take away Glen's face and the impact is totally gone.
I first saw this album when I was working in a TV video store. We also sold albums at the same shop and I remember a box of albums arrived and I opened it and in there was a re issue of Gentle. This was late seventies and I was just getting into Glen's music so I was overjoyed to see this album and snapped it up straight away. The same thing happened with Highwayman. I didn't even know Glen had released the album, but there it was in another box delivered a few months later. Funny how these moments stay in the memory.

The Lettermen’s co-founder laps up memories into six decades

Good article about The Lettermen with Tony Butala who co-founded the group in the late 1950s. Nice mention about when their paths crossed with Glen Campbell:
The Lettermen also have crossed paths with many luminaries through the decades. Butala brought up hearing about “Turn Around, Look At Me,” from its co-writer, Glen Campbell, then “such an unknown, brilliant guitar player” in the studio. The Lettermen recorded it in 1961, welcoming Campbell’s chops and fretwork as well, Butala said. Although not a chart hit, to which Campbell also could relate in his own effort for a single, the song became a “favorite” at the time for The Lettermen’s nightclub shows....

This British movie (called War On Everyone) is reported to have a lot of Glen Campbell songs in the soundtrack. It's a black comedy and not everyone's taste, not mine anyway.

This is a very rare video recording from 1965 of Frank Sinatra on a studio session.
It gives us a good feel for what it was like for Glen when he had played on a Sinatra session.
(Thank you to Scott Rogers for uploading this video to YouTube.)

A recent blog about Wichita Lineman...

I don't agree with everything (for instance, I think things have changed a bit since 2008, regarding his statement that liking Glen is not considered to be cool). However I agree with what he says about Glen's way of blurring the lines between pop and country. Where others did country songs with a pop sound, "Glen played pop music with a country twang, inverting the crossover formula". The funny thing is, these days country music is more like that: pop or rock music with a country twang. The big difference between most contemporary country music and Glen's music is: Glen had good songs and the talent to perform them, whereas most of the current songs are not good and the performers have even less talent than Glen had in this little finger. But you can't blame Glen for what came after him. And, I am happy to notice that some of the most promising new country artists, like Kacy Musgraves, cite Glen as a direct influence (and it shows!).

Thanks Dee. So 2 dollars a piece, perhaps 50.000 copies, probably earned them 100,000 dollar? Not bad!

Something completely different:
