Re: Glen Campbell and Jimmy Webb
I did now about those concerts and would have loved to have been at one of them. But when I found out the only tickets that were left were way back
from the stage and still there at a price I couldn't afford at the time. Can't recall how I found out about the concerts but as they say if I have of know what
was going to happen to Glen I might have just tried a little harder to get there. That hall the layout looks like its longer than it is wide if memory serves
me. It would have been one more concert I'm sure.

Re: Glen Campbell and Jimmy Webb
I think this album "Just across the river" will become a classic album of the future. Already since it was released three artists who appeared on it are now unable to perform Glen, Linda and of course Joe Cocker who passed away last December.
It must be very heart warming for Jimmy to have caught these musical moments in a bottle for us all to replay and remember the talented artists who can no longer do the one thing they all enjoyed.Singing from the heart.
I must say it was wonderful how Glen enjoyed working with Jimmy. It is not often you see a writer of songs given so many opportunities to shine in the spot light. I remember the first time Jimmy came to my attention was on the Royal festival hall concert on the BBC.in 1977, and I have grown to appreciate Jimmy's own recorded music more and more over the years.
Of course Glen did also give John Hartford a lot of air time on his Good time show as well. That can only have helped his career over the years. There is no doubt about it Glen was a very generous soul.

Re: Glen Campbell and Jimmy Webb
I enjoyed reading your well-researched description of the landmark 3-concert series performed by GC and JW, Cowpoke. Tremendous concert--and yes, history making for both of these artists. Maybe a recording, perhaps even a video, will surface some day of one of these concerts.
I also appreciated reading Richard Price's description, too, of Glen Campbell and Jimmy Webb's last concert in Carmel. Thank you for finding his wonderful write-up in the GCF archives.
So, the song that GC and JW recorded in Nashville is the track that landed on Jimmy Webb's 2010 album, "Just Across The River"?
If so, Jimmy included this recording in his tribute concert to Glen Campbell in June. He explained that this was the only track on which they appeared on together.
Also, Jimmy noted with sadness, this album includes "Linda's (Ronstadt's) last recorded song ever.

Re: Glen Campbell and Jimmy Webb
And yet, these 3 concerts were quite important in the history of Jimmy Webb and Glen Campbell. They were the last full concerts they ever did together. And, the day after the (presumably third) concert, Glen and Jimmy recorded the only track on which they ever sang together, their duet on "By the Time I Get to Phoenix".Dee wrote:Thanks, Cowpoke! I don't know anything about the three-night concert series in 2009 at which Glen Campbell and Jimmy Webb performed with the Nashville Symphony at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center, I am sorry to say.
Here's what Jimmy Webb said about this session in 2011...
Source: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/mike-rago ... 40371.htmlSo, I'll tell you how that (Campbell appearance) happened. He and I played a concert down at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center with the Nashville Philharmonic and it was such a big success. Everybody was talking about it. It's a small town, and everybody was saying, "Did you see the Jimmy Webb / Glen Campbell concert?" So, we were all on such a high after the show, and then Freddy came running up to me and said, "Do you realize where we are?" I said, "What?" And he said, "We're in Nashville with Glen Campbell, we have to get him over to the studio tomorrow to sing 'By the Time I Get to Phoenix.'" He said, "You guys have never sung together on a record." And I thought (about it) for a second because I was going to argue with him. Then I started thinking, and, in fact, we've never sung together. Strange, because I've played on a lot of things and I've been in the studio with him, but we've never sung anything together, at least not on a record.
So, the next day, he walked into the studio and I had sung the first verse so we brought him in on, "By the time I make Albuquerque she'll be working..." And when he started singing I thought, "Well, there are singers and then there are singers."
The last time Glen and Jimmy performed together however was on June 4, 2011, a concert in Carmel, Indiana. Jimmy did the first set, Glen and his band then did their set and afterwards Glen and Jimmy did three songs together. One newspaper printed a rather negative review of Glen's performance then. I think this was one of the factors that caused Glen and Kim to open up about Glen's Alzheimer's diagnosis later that same month (June 22, 2011) in People Magazine.
In the forum archives I found this post (from June 6, 2011) by longtime Glen Campbell fan the late Richard Price:
I was also in the audience at the Carmel, Indiana show last Saturday night. I truly enjoyed the entire show, even with the occasional flaws. Yes, Glen missed a few lyrics. However, his voice sounded great: strong, clear and resonant on all of the songs. He sang a higher note on the end of "Galveston" than I've ever heard him sing on it before; and I've seen more than 100 shows. TJ told me after the show that it was a high A.
And the guitar playing was fantastic as usual. Extended solos on "By the Time I Get to Phoenix," "Gentle on My Mind," and "Galveston" plus the outstanding solo on the new song, "In My Arms" proved that Glen hasn't lost one iota of his guitar "chops."
The band was right on the mark, and enthusiastic in their performance. I was especially impressed with the background vocals. Many times, there were 7 voices backing Glen: Debby, Ashley, Cal, Shanon, Ry, Siggy and TJ; and every one of them sings really well! Their harmonies were spot on. Debby and Ashley sounded wonderful together on "Landslide."
Jimmy Webb was the "opening act." He shared his recollections about several of his songs prior to performing them. The man is a true genius! That would be true even if he had never written another song after 1975. He and Glen shared the stage for three songs to end the show.
Here is the set list for the evening...the sequence may not be completely correct.
Jimmy Webb
Highwayman
Up, Up and Away
If These Walls Could Speak
All I Know
The Worst That Could Happen
The Moon's a Harsh Mistress
MacArthur Park
Glen Campbell
Gentle on My Mind
By the Time I Get to Phoenix
Try a Little Kindness
It's Only Make Believe
I Can't Stop Loving You
Lovesick Blues
Jackson (duet: Glen & Debby)
Let It Be Me (duet: Glen & Debby)
Landslide (duet: Debby & Ashley)
Duelling Banjos (instrumental duet: Ashley & Glen)
Rollin' in My Sweet Baby's Arms (trio: Glen, Debby & Ashley)
Southern Nights
William Tell Overture
In My Arms
A Better Place
Rhinestone Cowboy
Glen & Jimmy
Galveston
Wichita Lineman
Didn't We
The audience was engaged throughout the show. They clapped along with several songs, and expressed their appreciation with multiple standing ovations. Was it a perfect show? No. But I thoroughly enjoyed the entire evening...and am already looking forward to the next show I am able to attend, whenever and wherever that may be.

Great ad and info Dee. Thanks. So anyone who took on that bet won the Capitol tower?

An ad from just over forty-six years ago!
I thought it would be fun to post it in celebration of Jimmy Webb's birthday today. Or should I say "Jim Webb"?
Did You Know?
"Where's the Playground Susie" (spelled with two "S's) appeared on Glen Campbell's album, "Galveston".
Andy Williams' released a version on his album "Happy Heart", which came out in 1969 only a few weeks after Glen Campbell's single.
Lynn Anderson covered the song as "Where's the Playground, Bobby" on her 1969 album, "At Home With Lynn."
Bobbie Gentry also recorded the song as "Where's the Playground, Johnny" on her 1969 album "Touch 'Em with Love".

Thanks, Cowpoke! I don't know anything about the three-night concert series in 2009 at which Glen Campbell and Jimmy Webb performed with the Nashville Symphony at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center, I am sorry to say. Thanks so much for posting a fan's review of one of these concerts!
This is a shout out from all the fans here to Mr. Jimmy Webb on his birthday, Saturday, August 15th! Happy Birthday!

Re: Glen Campbell and Jimmy Webb
I think it's a later concert. Perhaps the September 2009 concert (or was it even a concert series?) Glen and Jimmy did in Nashville?
