Ken Maiuri’s Clubland: Jimmy Webb gives his all at Iron Horse concert -- Concert Review
Daily Hampshire Gazette (Northampton, MA) - April 1, 2015
Now in his late 60s, Webb never held back from hitting his complex songs’ highest notes, and the effect was powerful. He knew his sometimes shaky voice couldn’t compete with the famous recorded versions of his hits but he didn’t worry about it: “My songs were performed by the greatest vocalists in the world,” he said warmly, paying respects to royalty like Glen Campbell, Art Garfunkel and Marilyn McCoo & Billy Davis Jr.

Jimmy Webb, coming to Iron Horse in Northampton, talks about his songs
Masslive.com
March 17, 2015

Jimmy Webb discusses "Highwayman", "Wichita Lineman", and two other songs that he wrote. Here is an excerpt regarding WL:
I had always wanted to write something that had an economy of lines and was about my hero, the working-class guy who goes out to work and provides for his family and does the right thing. So it was kind of fate when I was back visiting my folks and I was driving along and saw a lineman up on a telephone pole. And I thought "That's my guy."

So I scribbled the idea in a notebook and even had a sketch of the lineman in the back of the notebook. So when Glen called me, I found that notebook and saw that sketch and I said "This is probably the lineman's moment." So I spent the rest of the day working on "Wichita Lineman" and it was done before dark. In fact, they had it in the studio that the same day. I personally didn't think it was finished. When I sent it over, I sent a note that said "Not finished, but what do you think?" But they paid absolutely no attention to that and just went ahead and cut it. (Laughs.)

Nice. But I think arch conservative is a bit of a stretch.

More information about Jimmy Webb's upcoming tribute show, "The Glen Campbell Years":

A description of this show is now on The Blue Door's website, one of the U.S. venues at which Jimmy will perform the tribute:

"Glen Campbell and Jimmy Webb were an unexpected pairing: a multi-platinum recording artist arch-conservative and a child prodigy long-hair stoner songwriter. Yet, Campbell and Webb became one of the most successful musical collaborations of all time.

In this show, America’s songwriter, Jimmy Webb, shares the music and personal stories of a friendship that provided the soundtrack for generations.

Wichita Lineman
Galveston
Where’s the Playground Susie
By The Time I Get to Phoenix
Didn’t We
MacArthur Park
Honey Come Back
The Moon is a Harsh Mistress
Honey Come Back… and many more

'By the Time I Get to Phoenix' was the third most performed song in the 50 years between 1940 to 1990. Webb is the only artist ever to have received Grammy Awards for music, lyrics, and orchestration."

Very interesting link Dee. 200 songs seems a bit much. Erik's outstanding research, which has been posted under Resources, does list a lot of songs, but not 200!
